IREB® CPRE Advanced Level

Elicitation & Consolidation — Practitioner

The CPRE Advanced Level offered by IREB is modular. Currently, CPRE-FL professionals can acquire the Advanced Level Certificate in the respective independent modules of "RE@Agile", "Requirements Elicitation & Consolidation", "Requirements Management" and "Requirements Modelling".

Advanced Level is aimed at those who already hold the CPRE Foundation Level Certificate wishing to deepen their knowledge in a sub-discipline of requirements engineering or business analysis.

In CPRE AL Elicitation & Consolidation, the techniques acquired at Foundation Level to fully elicit and document requirements are deepened. CPRE professionals learn the appropriate techniques to recognise, identify, classify and consolidate sources of requirements in software development.

Examples of investigative techniques are:  Questionnaires, interviews, brainstorming, field observations (observing how someone performs an activity and gathering requirements for a system to support those activities). The second part of the module deals with techniques for consolidating requirements, i.e. identifying and resolving conflicts between stakeholders. In many cases, stakeholders do not have a unified view of requirements, indeed, they may want different things. Here, the requirements engineer must try to resolve the conflict in order to arrive at a uniformly agreed requirements document.

What requirements must be met?

The prerequisite for admission to the CPRE Advanced Level Practitioner examination is possession of the CPRE Foundation Level Certificate or the BCS Requirements Engineering Certificate.

What are the options available for acquiring the CPRE-Advanced Level Practitioner Certificate?

Self-study

To prepare for the CPRE Advanced Level exam, knowledge of the syllabus link and the CPRE AL Elicitation & Consolidation Manual link is useful. Furthermore, IREB provides the opportunity to take a practice exam, complete with solutions and correction aid.

Participation in a training course followed by a certification exam

In preparation for the certification exam, although attendance of a course run by an IREB® accredited training provider is recommended, it is not a requirement for registration for the CPRE-Advanced Level certification exam.
